NOTE! There is another "Naunton" just North of Tewkesbury - don't visit the wrong one by mistake! Approaching from the North and East via Stow-on-the-Wold When approaching Stow-on-the-Wold from any direction you will arrive at a traffic-light controlled cross roads on the A429 (Fosse Way), with the Unicorn Inn standing on one corner. The B4068 is opposite the Unicorn, signposted Naunton. Follow the B4068 for 5 miles. The road drops steeply into the village of Lower Swell, then climbs back out of its valley. Immediately the road drops down a second hill into another small valley and climbs back up the hill beyond. (At the top of this hill is a cross roads - Bourton is signpposed to the left, the Farm Park to the right). Beyond the cross roads the B4068 drops down a third hill into the Windrush valley. Watch out for a right turn into a lane immediately at the foot of the hill, signposted Naunton. This lane leads into and through the village. Pass the Black Horse on your right. Half a mile beyond, the lane rises up a steep little hill - the Chapel is just beyond the brow of the hill, immediately on the roadside. Approaching from the South via Northleach/Bourton-on-the-Water Approaching Bourton-on-the-Water from the South, the A429 (Fosse Way) descends a long hill. At the bottom of the hill the A436 joins from the left by a garage. Just beyond this there is a right turn (into Bourton-on-the-Water), and - a few yards further - a left turn signposted Naunton. Take this lane which, after 2 miles, brings you to a halt at a crossroads with the B4068. Turn left onto the B4068 and follow the last paragraph of the directions from Stow-on-the-Wold. Approaching from the West and South West via Andoversford Reach Andoversford either via the A40 through Cheltenham, or from the M5 at Junction 11A. At the main traffic lights on the A40 at Andoversford, turn onto the A436 - sigposted Bourton-on-the-Water and Stow-on-the-Wold. The A436 climbs a long hill and then flattens out. Ignore several lanes on the left signposted for Hawling. After the last of these the A436 bends sharply rightwards, with a left turn onto the B4068 on the bend. Turn onto the B4068 (signposted Naunton and Slaughters). Ignore a turn to the left after a mile and a half (signposted Guiting). Half a mile beyond is a junction with lanes joining from left and right. Take the left fork here for the lane into Naunton - well signposted. Follow the lane down into the village with a sharp, blind bend at the bottom of the hill. Follow the lane past a small village green, over a bridge and round another blind bend. The Chapel is a few yards further on the roadside.
Chapel visitors are very welcome to park outside the Chapel or the house immediately above (uphill). Additional ample and convenient parking can be arranged for special services. It is helpful if cars are not left in the narrowest parts of the lane, since bus and lorry traffic can be easily obstructed. |
